What is Camp Mariposa?
Camp Mariposa® St. Petersburg is an addiction prevention and mentoring program for children affected by a family member’s substance use.
What does the program offer?
Camp Mariposa offers youth transformational weekend camps multiple times a year. Campers participate in fun traditional camp activities combined with education and support exercises led by mental health professionals and trained mentors. Additional educational, social, and mentoring activities are offered for campers, teens, and their families throughout the year. These activities build knowledge, coping skills, confidence, and an opportunity to connect with one another. Camp Mariposa provides a safe, fun, and supportive environment critical to help break the cycle of addiction.
Mentors Needed Now!
Camp Mariposa is looking for energetic, positive, and fun adults (ages 18+) to serve as mentors during 4 to 6 weekends a year. Eligible adult volunteers will be onsite during entire weekend camp events, and assigned up to 3 youth campers (ages 9-12). Under the supervision of the Camp Director, each mentor’s primary responsibility will be to provide a safe, positive, fun, supportive and energetic experience for the youth campers.
Adult mentors must be able to facilitate and participate in a variety of sharing activities with campers. Mentors also dine and share a cabin with their assigned campers. Interested adults must meet eligibility criteria, participate in an interview, and pass a background screening and drug test. All volunteer mentors receive training provided by Camp Mariposa.
