UPDATE: Mandela Discharged From Hospital, Still In Critical Condition

September 1, 2013 - After nearly three months in the hospital, Nelson Mandela went home in an ambulance Sunday.

According to South African President Jacob Zuma, Mandela is still in critical condition and will receive intensive care at home from the same team of doctors who treated him during his hospital stay.  Read more at

Trayvon Martin Foundation To Receive $50k Donation For College Scholarships

August 30, 2013 - An Orlando auto group, law firm and black fraternity are among those offering $50,000 as a scholarship to four graduating seniors from Trayvon Martin's high school in Dade County.

The donors, including the Boyland Auto Group and Invictus Law Group, are to present the money to the Trayvon Martin Foundation and his parents tomorrow in Isleworth.  Read more at

Obama: Forces Conspiring Against Middle Class (VIDEO)

Obama to seek congressional OK for US action in Syria

August 31, 2013 - Short on support at home and allies abroad, President Barack Obama unexpectedly stepped back from a missile attack against Syria on Saturday and instead asked Congress to support a strike punishing Bashar Assad’s regime for the alleged use of chemical weapons.

With Navy ships on standby in the Mediterranean Sea ready to launch their cruise missiles, Obama said he had decided the United States should take military action and that he believes that as commander in chief, he has “the authority to carry out this military action without specific congressional authorization.”  Read more at

Ron Howard’s film on Jay-Z festival to air on Showtime

August 30, 2013 - Ron Howard’s “Made in America” documentary about the Jay-Z-curated music festival in Philadelphia will air Oct. 11 on Showtime.

Jay-Z’s “Budweiser Made in America” festival debuted on Labor Day weekend last year. About 50,000 fans attended the two-day event. Performers included Pearl Jam, Drake, Run DMC, Skrillex, D’Angelo and Calvin Harris.  Read more at

Cory Booker on personal life: ‘My sexuality is not an issue right now’

August 29, 2013 - Cory Booker’s opponent for the New Jersey Senate seat, Steve Lonegan, says it’s “weird” that the Newark mayor won’t discuss his private life. But Booker, on the All in With Chris Hayes show on Thursday, says the topic is irrelevant.

“The question really should not be am I gay or straight. The question should be, why the heck are you asking the question in the first place? It doesn’t make a whit of difference what kind of senator I’m going to be or not,” said Booker.  Read more at
