Donald Trump recently received some bad news from a Republican judge, Judge William Young, a federal court judge in Massachusetts. Judge Young, who was appointed by Ronald Reagan and has served on the bench for 40 years, declared two of Donald Trump’s executive orders illegal, unconstitutional, and void. These executive orders had revoked funding for research from the National Institute of Health (NIH) that was meant for racial minorities and LGBTQ+ individuals.
Judge Young said, “I have never seen a record where racial discrimination was so palpable. I’ve sat on this bench for 40 years now. I’ve never seen government racial discrimination like this.” He continued, expressing his obligation to call out what he saw: “I am hesitant to draw this conclusion but I have an unflinching obligation to draw it that this represents racial discrimination and discrimination against LGBTQ community that’s what this is i would be blind not to call it out my duty is to call it out”. Finally, he directly addressed the implications of the orders: “You are bearing down on people of color because of their color.” The Constitution will not permit that we have fallen so low have we no shame”. Judge Young not only declared the orders void but also ordered NIH to immediately restore the funding to these programs. Watch full video.
