Dr. Ibram X. Kendi recently appeared on MSNBC’s PoliticsNation on Sunday to discuss his forthcoming book, Malcolm Lives!, a groundbreaking biography of Malcolm X tailored for young readers and poised to hit bookshelves the week before what would be the icon’s 100th birthday, which is May 19, 1925.
Malcolm Lives!, the first major biography of Malcolm X in over thirty years, is a collaboration with the Malcolm X Estate and is set to be released on May 13, 2025.
In the interview by Rev. Al Sharpton, Dr. Kendi emphasized the enduring relevance of Malcolm X’s life and legacy, aiming to present a nuanced portrayal that resonates with today’s youth. He highlighted how Malcolm’s experiences with adversity, transformation, and activism can inspire young people to understand and engage with issues of racial justice and identity.
The book seeks to humanize Malcolm X, illustrating his journey from poverty, childhood trauma and prison, to becoming a pivotal figure in the fight for civil rights. Click here to watch full video.
