DNC hiring African American Outreach Director

The African American Outreach Director will work closely with the Director of Community Engagement, the Community Engagement team as well as DNC staff to implement effective outreach to the African American community.

Responsibilities:  Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Conducts stakeholder analysis, community outreach and engagement, message development and strategic communications, and logistical coordination for delivery and implementation of outreach efforts.
  • Tracks the impact of complex change initiatives.
  • Cultivates relationships with key constituencies and facilitates involvement as it relates to Committee objectives.
  • Develop and write comprehensive community engagement strategy plans for implementation.
  • Analyzing local political trends, performing necessary research and preparing background materials and documents.
  • Prepare briefings for the DNC Chair, officers and senior staff.

·     Serves as a Liaison to the Chair of the DNC’s African American Caucus

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience).
  • Community engagement and organizing experience
  • Three to five cycles of campaign experience, including one presidential or gubernatorial election

Office of the General Counsel Sixth Judicial Circuit hiring Senior Secretary

This is responsible administrative work providing support for trial court staff attorneys with the Office of the General Counsel. The Senior Secretary deals with subjects primarily legal in nature and must be familiar with legal terminology. Duties include a wide variety of administrative and clerical tasks that require the application of independent judgment and knowledge of relevant laws, policies and procedures, in a high-volume, fast pace environment. Assignments are made orally or in writing and work is reviewed through observation of work product, conferences and periodic reports or evaluations. Work is performed under the supervision of the Office Manager.
Minimum Training and Experience Required: Graduation from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in administrative support in a legal environment; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. All applicants must possess strong organizational skills and be detail-oriented. Familiar with legal terminology and previous work experience in a government agency highly desirable.

Creative Pinellas Announces Arts Grants Programs Accepting Applications through March 18

Be the primary resource to create the organization’s monthly newsletter including souring newsletter stories, Write and distribute press releases, Assist in the promotion of upcoming events and activities including activities to assist in recruiting clients, Take the primary role of recruitment of clients, once an area is identified., Work closely with the news media to have stories consistently placed in newspapers, recognized on television, and interviews broadcast on radio, Work closely with funding clients to make sure that they receive recognition and that they are aware of the recognition., Attend various special events and represent the organization in meetings, Man event/display tables at various events to assist in the recruitment of program clients, Work closely with CM managers and staff to be aware of upcoming events, Assist in maintenance of social media channels (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram)

Teens Sought for Teen Business Competition

On the weekend of February 19th through 21st Computer Mentors will be hosting the third annual Teen Business Competition.  The event will feature 20 teens, learning entrepreneurship and developing business ideas as a competition.

The event, sponsored by Connectwise as presenting sponsor, Suncoast Federal Credit Union, and JPMorgan Chase Foundation, will be hosted at Hillsborough Community College Ybor City campus.  Hillsborough Community College is also a sponsor.

Teen Business Competition (TBC) is an annual event that gives teens a great way to explore entrepreneurship in a weekend filled with fun, learning, exploring, and hard work.  High-school-aged teens, 14 through 18 years of age, and living in Hillsborough County are qualified to apply.  Twenty teens will be selected and placed into teams of five (5) which will compete.  The event kicks off on Friday evening and includes five (5) challenges, culminating in a final “Pitch Challenge” on Sunday afternoon in front of a panel of “Angel Investor” type judges.  Cash prizes in the form of gift cards will be awarded to the winners and no teen will go home empty handed, winning at least an iPad Mini for competing.

Teen Business Competition is not only about the teens creating businesses. It is about acquiring the skills needed to be successful in anything they choose to do. The learning outcomes revolve around three core competencies – collaboration, creative thinking and communication – rooted in the five challenges:

  • The Big Idea – creative problem-solving
  • Treasure Map – concept modeling
  • Show Me the Money – marketing and creating value
  • MVP – getting feedback and learning from mistakes
  • The Pitch – organizing ideas and communicating clearly

This year’s judges for “The Pitch” challenge this year will be former State House Member Betty Reed, David Bellini, co-founder of Connectwise, Bob Francis, managing partner with Milford Communications Partners, and Tim Horton, Venture Capitalist and Exec. Producer at PorchTalkRadio.com.  “The Pitch” challenge will also be emceed by Ebone Cruz, local talk show host of WTMP Tom Joyner Show fame.  Ms Cruz is also the founder of Hat-Attitude Inc., a non-profit organization that inspires and mentors young women.

Teens will also be assisted by over 20 volunteers, including subject matter experts and coaches from organizations like The Wave, and will even include some local successful young entrepreneurs.

USDA 1890 National Scholars Program Accepting Applications

The goal of the USDA/1890 National Scholars Program is to increase the number of minorities studying agriculture, food, natural resource sciences, and the related disciplines.  The USDA/1890 National Scholars Program is a partnership between of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the 1890 Historically Black Land-Grant Universities. The USDA/1890 National Scholars Program is implemented under the USDA Fellows Experience Program (FEP). Scholars accepted into the program will be appointed using the Schedule A(r) authority (5 CFR 213.3202) and are not eligible for noncompetitive conversion to full time employment upon graduation.

The USDA/1890 National Scholars Program is available to high school seniors entering their freshman year of college and rising college sophomores and juniors.

Suncoast Safety Council, Inc. hiring DUI Evaluator

Responsibilities include: Assessing DUI offenders using standardized criteria to determine risk of reoffending, determining patterns of alcohol or other substance abuse, case management of multiple offenders and ignition interlock violators, and preparation and maintenance of client files.  All training will be provided. 

Applicant MUST meet minimum requirements as required by state licensure (listed below):

Bachelor’s degree in human services or nursing and 4,000 hours of experience in mental health/rehabilitative direct client services or medical care specific to substance abuse.  A Master’s degree in human services, nursing or an M.D. may be substituted for 2,000 hours of experience.  Certified Addiction Professional (CAP) status, Certified Criminal Justice Addiction Professional (CCJAP) status, or 14,000 hours of experience in human services may be substituted for a degree not in human services, but shall not preclude the requirement of a Bachelor’s degree. 

Starting salary $30,000-$32,000 commensurate with education, experience and certifications held plus excellent benefit package including medical and life insurance, matching retirement contribution, paid time off, and paid holidays.
