Sistahs of Compassion, guest speaker for March 23rd is Melvin Smith, Sickle Cell Awareness Coordinator for the St. Petersburg Sickle Cell Disease Association and volunteer for the cause for over 16 years. Melvin is a native born resident of the city of St. Petersburg, Florida and a graduate of Gibbs High School Class of 1968. Melvin obtained a BS degree in Psychology from Howard University; this expertise served him well in 19 years of Management with Sears in New York and 20 years Account Executive Sales with General Binding Corporation out of Chicago, Illinois. He is presently semi-retired and an avid Golfer and Chess Player. He has two sons and 4 grandchildren. One of his sons is a Computer Systems Analyst for Coca Cola and his namesake is the Captain of the U.S. Jimmy Carter.
